Nigeria’s pharmaceutical market is expected to reach $1,839 million in revenue in 2025 at annual growth rate (CAGR 2025-2029) of 6.45%.

However, the countryโ€™s pharmaceutical industry faces significant challenges, including high medication costs, counterfeit drugs, poor distribution networks, and limited access to essential medicines, especially in underserved regions like northern Nigeria.

GetMedford, an online pharmaceutical marketplace that connects pharmacies and healthcare providers with a wide range of pharmaceutical products, is tackling these issues head-on by leveraging technology to make quality medications affordable and accessible.

As a fast-growing B2B/B2C pharmaceutical marketplace, GetMedford is transforming the pharmaceutical supply chainโ€”starting from Northern Nigeriaโ€”by bridging gaps between suppliers, healthcare providers, and patients.

Fixing Nigeriaโ€™s Broken Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

The pharmaceutical supply chain in Nigeria is plagued by several inefficiencies such as high cost of medication, as many Nigerians, particularly low-income earners, struggle to afford essential medicines.

There is also the issue of limited access to quality drugs. In this case, patients in rural areas often lack access to pharmacies that stock genuine medications.

Counterfeit drugs – fake and substandard medicines pose serious health risks and this could be linked to fragmented supply chain where small pharmacies and hospitals find it difficult to source medications at competitive prices.

Then, inefficient logistics leading to delays or unreliable delivery of drugs leads to stock shortages in many health facilities.

GetMedfordโ€™s Solution: A Tech-Driven Approach

Adamu Ahmad Muhammad, the founder/CEO of GetMedford told Techeconomy that the startup has rolled out a seamless online pharmacy for B2C customers.

โ€œGetMedford operates an online Marketplace where individuals can order genuine medications and have them delivered swiftly. This eliminates the need to visit multiple pharmacies searching for affordable and authentic drugsโ€.

A Marketplace for B2B Customers

Continuing, Adamu said, โ€œHospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers struggle with sourcing affordable medications. GetMedfordโ€™s B2B platform provides them with bulk purchase options at competitive prices; a reliable supply chain for quality-assured drugs including fast and efficient logistics support.โ€

Affordable Medication for Low-Income Earners

โ€œBy cutting out unnecessary middlemen and leveraging bulk purchasing power, GetMedford makes medications more affordable for patients with chronic diseases and those from low-income backgrounds.โ€

Technology-Enabled Supply Chain Optimization

โ€œGetMedford integrates business management tools into its platform, helping pharmacies and hospitals to track inventory efficiently; reduce stockouts and waste; automate order processing, and access real-time price comparisons.โ€

Ensuring Drug Authenticity and Compliance

He added that through partnerships with licensed manufacturers and verified distributors, GetMedford guarantees that every medication sold is NAFDAC-approved and meets the highest safety standards.

Why Northern Nigeria?

โ€œThe North has some of Nigeriaโ€™s highest healthcare access challenges, with rural communities often traveling long distances to find essential medicines.

โ€œGetMedford strategically started in Yola, the capital city of Adamawa state to address urgent healthcare gaps in the Northeast, ensuring that no patient is left without the medication they needโ€, he told Techeconomy.

Impact and Growth

So far, GetMedford has achieved over 1,200 B2C customers ordering medicines online; 100+ B2B clients (hospitals & pharmacies) benefiting from wholesale pricing, and expansion across Northern Nigeria through strategic partnerships and logistics networks.

The Future of GetMedford

Looking ahead, Adamu Ahmad Muhammad said GetMedford aims to expand into more Nigerian states, reaching millions of patients; strengthen partnerships with pharmaceutical manufacturers; introduce AI-driven demand forecasting to prevent medication shortages, and enhance delivery speed through innovative logistics solutions.

โ€œBy leveraging technology and optimizing the supply chain, GetMedford is solving one of Nigeriaโ€™s biggest healthcare challengesโ€”making quality medications accessible and affordable.
