Nigerian Chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.
The previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes was set in 2019 by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef.
Baci, an entrepreneur and restaurateur, achieved the remarkable feat of cooking continuously for 88hours as at the time TechEconomy started filing this report.
The competition, which commenced at exactly 4:04 pm on Thursday, is taking place at the prestigious Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos. The event is being live-streamed on YouTube, and several celebrities have turned up to support Baci physically, despite the inclement weather conditions.
The cook-a-thon’s headline sponsor is GB Foods, with Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber, and Woodscope also lending their support. The Cookathon has generated buzz both online and offline, with numerous attendees trooping to the venue to cheer on Baci.
