MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local communities and driving education with the recent donation of 4,600 digital tablets to Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Maitama.

These tablets will serve as key learning devices for students and school administrators.

The devices were presented to Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, MTN Nigeria, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe (OFR).

In attendance were other top government officials such as the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa; the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Mukhtar Shagaya.

The Vice President stated that the partnership with MTN was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to transforming secondary education in Nigeria.

“Making quality education available to every Nigerian child remains a priority for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, and the partnership of the private sector is paramount to the success of this mission. This is why we deeply appreciate MTN for rising to the occasion through this donation to our students, providing students with the tools needed to thrive in a digital world,” Senator Shettima stated.

MTN Chairman, Ndukwe (OFR) revealed that the donated devices had come with pre-installed U-Lesson software, containing content aligned with the Nigerian secondary school curriculum.

Speaking about the MTN’s initiatives, he said: “The donation of these tablets is just the beginning of our commitment to advancing digital literacy. Our goal is to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for every student regardless of their location, to excel. We plan to replicate this donation across schools, ensuring that students nationwide have access to these valuable educational resources.”

The Principal of Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Mallam Isa Okuru, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as an investment in the dreams and aspirations of the students, and an intentional acknowledgment of the world today.

“Digital literacy is no longer a right. It’s a necessity. With this gesture, our students will not only improve their digital literacy, but also enhance their research capabilities, coding skills, and overall academic performance.”

He further urged the students to make the most of these new resources.

MTN Nigeria remains committed to creating shared value and playing a positive and meaningful role in creating a sustainable and inclusive country.
