The Nigerian Ministry of Health and Aster DM Healthcare have discussed plans to expand healthcare training, medical support programmes and mobile health services in Nigeria following a visit by a delegation from the ministry to the company’s facilities in the United Arab Emirates.
The delegation, led by the Minister of Health, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, visited Aster DM Healthcare’s hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and technology facilities in Dubai to explore areas of cooperation, including skills development, knowledge sharing and improved access to specialised healthcare.
During the visit, the team from Nigeria toured several Aster facilities, including Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital, Aster Hospital in Al Qusais, Aster Pharmacy stores, Medcare Medical Centre in Mirdif, Wellth holistic medicine clinic and Aster Pharmacy’s robotic warehouse.
The tour also allowed the delegation to meet healthcare professionals, hospital administrators and technology teams working across Aster’s healthcare network. They reviewed the company’s medical services, digital health solutions and specialised treatment programmes.
Among the initiatives presented were Aster’s cardiac care services, the WalkAgain robotic rehabilitation programme, women and children healthcare technologies, and specialised departments covering cardiology, neurology, oncology and orthopaedics.
Speaking after the visit, Dr Salako said Nigeria sees opportunities for collaboration with Aster in areas such as healthcare training and innovation.
“We were delighted to observe Aster DM Healthcare’s strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and specialised care. The integrated healthcare model, along with a focus on training and innovation, offers significant opportunities for collaboration.
“We anticipate a close partnership with Aster DM Healthcare to exchange best practices and enhance healthcare capacity in Nigeria.”
Aster DM Healthcare Managing Director, Ms Alisha Moopen, said the company is willing to work with Nigeria’s health ministry to improve healthcare outcomes through training and knowledge exchange.

Discussions between both sides also covered the training of nurses and paramedics, improving clinical skills among doctors, surgical outreach programmes and referrals for complex medical cases to Aster’s tertiary healthcare facilities in the UAE.
The meeting further highlighted Aster Volunteers, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme, which supports mobile medical clinics and maternal health initiatives for communities with limited access to healthcare.
Both parties agreed to develop a framework that will guide future collaboration between Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and Aster DM Healthcare.
The framework will focus on turning the discussions into practical healthcare programmes across training, medical services and community outreach.
