TikTok removed more than 4.8 million videos in Nigeria between January and March 2026 for violating its Community Guidelines, according to the platform’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.

The removed videos accounted for 0.6% of all content uploaded by Nigerian users during the first quarter, while 99.8% of the videos were detected and removed before users reported them, and 92.8% came down within 24 hours of being posted.

Across the world, TikTok removed more than 184 million videos during the same period, representing about 0.5% of all uploads. The company said the figures reflect its continued investment in systems that detect and remove harmful content.

TikTok also stepped up enforcement on TikTok LIVE during the quarter.

In Nigeria, the platform suspended 120,000 LIVE sessions for breaking its Community Guidelines. That was 40,000 more than in the previous reporting period.

Globally, TikTok carried out more than 58 million LIVE enforcement actions. These included the suspension of 50,791,858 LIVE sessions and warnings or demonetisation for 21,966,667 LIVE creators who violated its policies.

The company explained that warnings give creators an opportunity to correct content that may breach LIVE monetisation rules.

Its enforcement work continues to benefit from collaboration with government agencies and civil society organisations. In Nigeria, it highlighted its partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and other organisations to support a coordinated response to online safety issues.

The platform also shared new figures on its efforts to tackle misleading and AI-generated content.

According to the report, TikTok removed more than 118,000 pieces of content in Nigeria under its edited media and AI-generated content policy during the first quarter of 2026.

Globally, the social giant removed more than 86 million fake accounts as part of its goal to reduce spam and other forms of inauthentic activity.

TikTok said it is testing stronger detection systems to identify accounts that publish AI-generated spam at scale. The company noted that while AI provides new opportunities for creativity, it can also be abused to flood the platform with low-quality or misleading content.

The platform added that more than three billion videos have now been labelled as AI-generated content using Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools and invisible watermarking technology. It said these measures help users identify content that has been created or significantly edited with AI.

Beyond enforcement, TikTok announced new initiatives to improve AI literacy and transparency following the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva.

The company has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee, where it will work with other industry members to support wider adoption of technologies that improve transparency around AI-generated content.

Again, TikTok has partnered with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and Henry Ajder to develop guidance that helps users understand and use AI tools responsibly.

As part of those initiatives, the company plans to launch an in-app AI literacy hub for users in Nigeria in the coming weeks. The hub will provide educational resources to help users recognise AI-generated content and better understand how AI tools are used on the platform.

TikTok disclosed that it has committed more than $4 million to its AI Literacy Fund since launching the initiative in November 2025. In Nigeria, it continues to work with the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and Paradigm Initiative to deliver locally relevant AI education.

According to the company, these partnerships have generated more than 200 million views, reflecting growing interest in trusted information about AI.

TikTok has also updated the design of its Community Guidelines Enforcement Reports to make them easier to read and navigate. The company added that users can now access enforcement data covering a wider range of markets, alongside the latest figures on government content removal requests.
